Wells won 254 games and lost 171 for a 59.8% winning percentage during his 18-year career at Tulane. His teams finished in the top half of the Southeastern Conference for 14 of his 18 seasons, with his 1949 team concluding the regular season ranked ninth in the nation. His teams were 24-4 in 1949, 23-3 in 1948 and 22-9 in 1947. He served as President of the NABC in 1958 and coached in the inaugural NABC All-Star game in 1963. He retired from coaching to become the NABC's executive secretary in 1963. He was also inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. |
